How to fulfill all desires

We are told by our elders, teachers and spiritual guides to curb our desires, as desires give rise to unhappiness. The scriptures also tell us to become free from desire since desire results in sin. However, no one in this world seems to give us the knowledge and wisdom by which we can fulfill all our desires and remain peaceful and happy.

The Bhagavad Gita contains the secret science of Yog, which is declared to be the fulfiller of desires. Unfortunately, we could not understand the words of Lord Krishna in the Gita and thereby failed to fulfill our desires.

The following verses of the Gita reveal the secret science of fulfilling all desires:

This world is bound by actions other than those performed for the sake of Yagya [sacrifice by way of non-attachment to actions]. O Kauntey, perform actions for that [Yagya] free from attachment.Chapter 3:9

In the beginning the Creator, having created beings by Yagya, said, “By this [Yagya] shall you propagate, let this be the Kamdhuk [divine cow that fulfils all desires] of your desired objects.” Chapter 3:10

Kamdhuk or Kamdhenu is the name of a celestial cow possessed by sage Vashist. Kamdhenu had the power to bestow the desired objects asked by any person. The Yagya or sacrifice, referred to in Verses 3:9-10 of the Gita, has the power of Kamdhenu and it can give the desired object to the person who performs this sacrifice. Sacrifice here does not mean the performance of any material sacrifices. Sacrifice refers to the wisdom or science of Karma Yog or performance of actions without attachment to the actions. Verse 3:9 asks us to perform all actions free from attachment and calls such an unattached performance of actions Yagya or sacrifice. We were created by the all-pervading Brahm or God by this sacrifice. Sacrifice by way of non-attachment to actions is not only the creator of all beings, it is also their sustainer, as revealed in the following verses:

From food come forth beings; from rain food is produced; from sacrifice arises rain, and sacrifice is born of action. Chapter 3:14

Know that action arises from Brahm[Gyan or wisdom] and Brahm arises from the Imperishable. Therefore, the all-pervading Brahm is ever established in Sacrifice. Chapter 3:15

These verses reveal that Sacrifice gives rise to rain and thereby sustains all beings. It is born of action and the all-pervading Brahm or God is ever established in sacrifice. All actions from the bodies arise from Brahm that is Wisdom and these are performed by nature, as explained in Verse 3:27. The all-pervading Wisdom or God remains unattached with the action, remaining aware that these are performed by the nature.

All we have to do is change our thoughts by renouncing the sense of doership of actions to God in our hearts. At the same time, we have to understand the correct meaning of the words of God written in the scriptures and believe them as true. On being established in Yog or on becoming unattached to actions, we will attain the Wisdom that is God and all our desires will be fulfilled and we will attain eternal peace and happiness.
