The Second Truth

It is Possible to Overcome Death
We are all living in the delusion that death is imperative; that every person will die one day. But, contrary to this general belief, Lord Krishna says one can attain immortality and live forever:

Having crossed over these three attributes arising from the body, the dweller in the body is completely freed from birth, death, old age and sorrow and attains immortality. Chapter 14:20

A fact that is revealed in the Bible as well:

That whatsoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:15

Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that believeth in Me hath everlasting life. John 6:47

Verily, verily, I say unto you, if a man keeps My saying, he shall never see death. John 8:51

The Guru Granth Sahib also says:

One who has the knowledge of God, depends on God alone. Such a knower of God never dies.

Though these holy books have been read over and over again by mankind for thousands of years, we could not perceive the real message that they conveyed. We could not imagine that terms such as “have eternal life” or “never die” or “completely free from sorrow, old age and death” literally meant “living forever and attaining immortality.”

You Are God – The Bhagavad Gita as never before reveals that the Bhagavad Gita contains the secret science and wisdom that can free the mankind from stress, diseases, old age and death and make us immortal. With the aid of this science and wisdom we can literally over come death and live forever. Verses 2:62-63 of the Bhagavad Gita reveal the cause of our death:

A man contemplating the objects develops an attachment for them. From attachment arises desire and from desire arises anger. Chapter 2:62

From anger arises delusion, from delusion confusion of memory, from confusion of memory the loss of intellect, from loss of intellect he perishes.Chapter 2:63

The manifest or physical form of all beings remains intact or in action as long as their intellect remains intact. When their intellect is lost the beings perish. The loss of intellect is caused by a chain reaction that starts when we contemplate the objects while performing actions. This attaches us to the objects. From attachment arises desire and from desire arises anger. From anger arises delusion, from delusion confusion of memory and confusion of memory results in the loss of intellect.

You Are God reveals that it is possible for us to remain engaged in our actions and enjoy all the things of life as usual without losing our intellect. When we do not lose our intellect but make it steady, we will not perish but become non-perishable beings. We will then live forever.

The science or wisdom by which we can perform all the usual actions and enjoy all the objects without losing our intellect has been called Buddhi Yog or the discipline of intellect in the Gita. To practice this Yog, you do not have to bring any change in your lifestyle or actions. All you have to do is to change your thoughts, or, rather, your way of thinking. As suggested by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita this thinking has been explained in a simple how-to-manner in You Are God. A person who changes his/ her thoughts accordingly will become Sthitpragaya, a person of steady intellect. His intellect will never be lost and he will become a non-perishable being. Having attained immortality and having overcome death he will live forever.

We can also attain this state of immortality by Karma Yog, which is a discipline of mind and is different from Buddhi-Yog, which is the discipline of intellect. Karma Yog is based on the truth revealed in verse 3:27 of the Bhagavad Gita which says that all actions of the body are performed by the three attributes of nature, namely, purity, passion and delusion and not by the being living in the body. When the being regards him as the doer of those actions, he becomes attached to the attributes of purity, passion and delusion is the cause of constant death and birth of the being in different bodies. You Are God unfolds the science of Karma Yog by which a person can free him/ her from these attributes and attain the attribute less state of mind or the Supreme Wisdom that is God. He will then be freed from stress, diseases, ageing and death revealed in verse 14:20 the Bhagavad Gita:

Having crossed over these three attributes arising from the body, the dweller in the body is completely freed from birth, death, old age and sorrow and attains immortality. Chapter 14:20

You Are God reveals that a person does not have it change his life-style and actions to attain peace, happiness and eternal life. It reveals that the Karma Yog is a discipline of mind that does not involve any change in the person’s life-style and actions. It is the highest wisdom through which every person can become free from stress, diseases, ageing and death and can attain immortality. You Are God explains in a simple how-to-manner the science of Karma Yog which is the highest wisdom of God that can free you from old age and death and endow you peace, happiness and eternal life.
